Oh what a night! What a day! Julie and I had a great trip to NYC last Wed. Just blogging about it now because I just got the photos. The day started with fabulous new do’s at Sassoon uptown and ended on top of a building on Fifth ave in a club with the girls from Polartec, Kate of Kick PR, Lesley of Fashion Tribes, and Diana Eng, designer from the second season of project runway. We met with Lesley and a friend before hand to talk shop and catch up. Then off to Runway a small club off fifth for the event. The basic premise behind the challenge was to bring awareness to the fashion world that Polartec fabrics aren’t just for active wear and outer wear. [A little side note about Polartec, if I'm not mistaken, all of their fabric is still produced in America]. Polartec paired up with Fashion Indie to invite emerging designers to submit ideas. Ten designers were chosen to take part in this very Project Runwayesque challenge. The challenge was simple, Polartec would choose the fabric, the designers had a month to design their piece to be shown in the fashion show and be judged. I thought they were all great. The winner of the challenge was Rebecca Turbow. A New York Designer with a studio in Brooklyn.

The cool part about this design is that it is made of six layers. Each layer is lined with lt. blue and is reversible. The dress has limitless stripe combinations. The coat is silvery gray with lt. blue trim. The fabric has the appearance of curly lamb. Even though the designer made a coat, It isn’t the shape we normally see made of Polartec fabric. Here are more pictures from the evening.

Like I said earlier, a great night. All the designs were very cool. Polartec must be happy with the results of unleashing their fabrics to put them into the hands of indie designers that definitately think outside of the box.
