Keep reading below for her mini interview…Thanks Ella!
Also, big thanks to photograher Tim Brown and son Morgan for the images – you guys ROCK.

What is your design process? I like to have a complete idea in my head before I start making it tangible by putting it down on paper or sketching it in Photoshop. While it’s still in your imagination you can do whatever you want with an idea, especially things that might not be possible but are still fun to play around with. A lot of times however, that original complete idea will be changed and tweaked as I go through the motions of working on it. Rarely do I actually stick completely to an original idea I had, I’ll always find something new to do, or think something else looks better after actually working for a while. Either way, it’s still mine and a unique piece of work. I like to work with traditional ideas or images and then hide something quirky, funny, and/or unexpected in them somewhere, to make people look and catch them off guard, and keep them thinking about it. |

What does your average day entail?
A lot of sleep, me complaining that I’m still tired, surfing the Internet for things to procrastinate with, finally doing my homework due the next morning at 2:00 AM. Wishing that being a college student, especially at Purchase, was not quite so inclined to being lazy and bored. Waiting to get out of school!
Do you have any events you are getting ready for in the near future? I’m going to France for 5 weeks in June with about 20 other students from Purchase. We’ll be studying French intensively at a well-known language school in the south, near the coast, and I will also be taking a photography class. The last week of the trip will be spent on our own, sight-seeing in Paris. I haven’t been out of the U.S. for longer than a week since I was about 2 years old, and the idea of living in France and learning the language is unbelievably exciting and a very welcome change! |

This SMASH UP tee is technically for the guys printed on a vintage gold Alternative Apparel Backstage tee – one of their bestselling tees. But this Darling will so be buying one, I’m thinking black skirt, big belt, flip flops or jeans and boots – the girls can always rock it however they want!
See more SMASH pics from all of our past student designers on our Flickr page.
Go ahead and show us your indie while you are there. Stay smashing and have a great day!
