I never thought being located in Chester, CT could help out two of our darling designers located in San Diego, but it did. Chester is a tiny little town located on the Connecticut River, population 3500. This small population is full of unbelievably creative and talented people. Eric Lichter, is one of the many talented folks I am surrounded by every day. Eric is a musician and his recording studio, Dirt Floor Studio, is right in town. His latest CD, Owl, was released this past summer.
Eric and I run into each other all the time, but mostly in Simon’s Marketplace during the morning coffee hour. We also run into each other so to speak on Facebook. One day a friend request from Kevan Christine, a graphic artist and photographer in San Diego, came through my inbox. Not really being sure of who she was, I looked at the mutual friends we had in common. Who pops up? Eric. Kevan became a friend of mine and a fan of Smashing Darling on Facebook. Bit by bit, introductions & messages were sent back and forth between us. Come to find out, Kevan did the artwork for Eric’s CD cover. It wasn’t long before I received a message from Kevan Christine saying, “I am looking for indie designers in San Diego for a photo shoot, do you know any?” As luck would have it, I did. I was able to connect Kevan Christine with Erika of Black Heart Bunny and Stacy of Stacie May Clothing, both designers with boutiques on Smashing Darling who live in San Diego. This is the power and uniqueness of social media. So, if you are asking yourself: ‘why would I want to be on Facebook?’ Well, simple. Because you never know who you will meet and how they may be able to help you.
