We were reminded of this great news yesterday from the Refinery 29, Pipeline. If you are in NYC between May 1 – 28 you will want to stop by the Port Authority 42nd & 8th Ave. where the Save Fashion Pop Up Boutique will open and run all month long. Here are the details right from the source:

save-fashion-corner-street pipeline refinery 29 emerging fashion

Here are the details right from the Pipeline:

Here’s the deal: From May 1-May 28, yours truly is turning Port Authority, which, up ’til now, we’d always associated with buses and pretzel shops, into a place you’ll actually want to be. Well, that is, if you want clothes from Acne, Rogan, and Steven Alan, and other greats at discounts of 50% or more. And while the Save Fashion team will reveal new designers and merchandise each week (that’s way better than those Topshop folks unveiling a new wave of crop tops and floral dresses each week), we’re going to start our countdown right here on the blog, full of juicy little tidbits to tide you over ’til the May 1 opening—and keep the salivating going all month long. What surprise will we unveil tomorrow? Check back to find out!

Click here to read the rest. Don’t forget to keep checking into Refinery 29 to get the juicy details about who the upcoming featured designers will be.

Nolcha emerging and independent fashion design

As you know, Modarling and I had the pleasure of attending the grand opening of Nolcha’s new retail space they share with Shane & Shawn. It is a great space down on Mulberry St in Nolita, NYC. The designers that Nolcha chose for the black brick space are a nice compliment to the shoes Shane & Shawn design. We met up with emerging designer Bob Bland of Brooklyn Royalty and stylist Seth Friedermann. He has some great tips in his blog for emerging & independent designers, I highly recommend a peek at it. The eve ended with dinner at Cafe Habana and lots of laughs with Bob. She is a wealth of knowledge for indie designers and is always working on great projects. You can keep track of her by reading her blog.

Anyway…I wanted to be the first to give you the skinny on another project Nolcha has up it’s sleeve. They are starting an international emerging fashion directory the details are below with the person to contact.

Emerging and Independent Designers need to have a roof over their heads.  In this age of virtual everything, a virtual roof will do.  To give industry insiders a place to go when looking for “the next big thing” media outlets are able to help both the press and the designer in one fell swoop.

Nolcha.com is growing rapidly as the portal for emerging and independent fashion business information. We want to share this success with you and assist you with brand promotion. You have the opportunity to be selected for a free Fashion Designer profile in our Online A – Z Emerging/Independent Designer Directory.

Nolcha.com has over 58,900 page views, 602,990 hits from 90 countries and 13,250 visitors per month bringing business to the forefront of the emerging and independent fashion market; delivering fashion business advice, expertise and education in retail, manufacturing, money, trends and PR & marketing. In addition industry news, Nolcha opportunities and fashion event coverage is provided. Content is updated daily. www.nolcha.com

Please e-mail odinella@nolcha.com for an application to be featured as well as the template of what information is required by from each designer.

We met Kristin Ezell/The Clothes Coach a few months back at Digital Moda where she was wowed by darling Papusza Couture. Ever feel like you could really use some help shopping, figuring out the perfect career-wear, or a special something for that special event? Kristin is your girl! Click here to see exactly how she can help. Kristin is an Image Consultant in New York City finishing up her certificate at the Fashion Institute of Technology, while also pursuing her other career as a classically trained soprano. La-la-la-la lovely!

Classic B&W with Yellow POP!

The Art Gallery Curator

I started building this outfit with the ruffled shirt because I’m a total sucker for a popped collar.  I especially like this Kate Boggiano because it’s feminine and well structured, which makes it work appropriate and easily transformable for cocktail hour.

Lara Miller is my favorite Darling designer because her pieces are clean and simple, which is very much my personal style.  Pairing the blue and white striped shirt with her black cigarette capris will create a long and lean look as vertical stripes are most flattering.  And side zips are always a winner in my book.

Cinching at the waist with this precious faux leather bow belt will help to soften the structured shirt and give you some subtle curves.  Plus, a portion of every Sue Rock Original goes toward supporting the lives of survivors of domestic violence living in transitional housing.  A fashion-conscious woman should always be a socially-conscious woman first.

Donate your blazers to Goodwill and try something new this year.  3/4 length sleeves are completely appropriate for a work environment, and you don’t need a collared jacket when paired with this statement blouse.

The most efficient way to “shop your closet” is to stick to basic colors and update with colored accessories.  These yellow pieces are rich in chroma and scream SPRING! If yellow isn’t your favorite color, these Ricardo Tovar shoes and bag are handmade to order and can be custom made with a different color.  Match with understated jewelry like these lemon yellow sterling silver earrings from Elle_P Designs.

About the Exhibition

On view at Cooper-Hewitt March 6—September 7, 2009

Fashioning Felt presents an extraordinary range of felt. From two-dimensional carpets to three-dimensional environments, each work reveals the virtuosity of both the material and the designers. The exhibition and book focus on felt that has been produced by traditional hand- or machine-felting processes; they exclude non-woven felt and techniques, in order to underscore the essential elements of feltmaking — wool fiber, agitation, moisture, and pressure.
