Where has fashion illustration gone?

The Society of Illustrators is currently paying tribute to fashion illustrators with an exhibit titled, The Line Of Fashion, April 1, – May 2, 2009. The exhibit highlights the magic that illustration has brought to fashion.
“It is a pity but today there are no more fashion illustrators. For however much I admire photographers, I have to admit their work is done to the detriment of the design. It is often the background that takes pride of the place. In the case of an illustration, it is the opposite. The design is well and truly present and alive. I remember all those fashion drawings I so admired. Kenneth, Eric, Joe Eula, Antonio Lopez and many others were for so long the painstaking partners of couturiers. They all showed themselves to be true artists.” -Yves Saint Laurent

Robyn, thanks for commenting…Love Antonio too. I completely remember when his illustrations were all over Vogue back in the 80’s! Was at FIT at the time!

Dear Sir’s
I am a canadian fashion illustrator. i have illustrated for most of the
canadian fashion houses in toronto canada since 1957.
do you think there is a chance that i might show some of my art on
your fantastic web? i only started painting large canvases in oil of
women of glamour in 1980s as fashion illustrators were ending the
that e’ra and could not make a living as a illustrator. my paintings
have been selling very well.
i want to thank you for your time. frederick watson…..
