New York Times Fashion & Style features Good Reads for Emerging Fashion

by trish on July 20, 2009

This past Thursday while I was tweeting away and reading my google alerts I rolled across to very good reads by the New York Times via BoF. Both articles are great and shed a little light on both sides of what is happening in emerging fashion, good and bad. Follow Smashing Darling on twitter where I try to post lots of helpful bits and links to good reads and must sees for the emerging and independent fashion industry.

There is a lesson to be learned in both. My advice after reading the second article is, never ship a second order if an account hasn’t paid you for a previous order, or if you have heard an account has spotty reputation for paying. I know we all think we have to ship product if we have an order. Sometimes though a tougher decision has to be made not to ship. It’s just not worth producing product that may never get paid for, all at an expense to you, the designer.Be strong and do the smart thing and concentrate on accounts that will pay. You will be happier in the long run.

If you have ever not been paid by a retail establishment for product you have shipped please share your story in the comments section. We can all learn from each others experiences.

and Clo, thank you for reminding me to share this in our blog.
