We want to give a shout out for darling designer Lara Miller. She will be showing this Wed. September, 16 at 11:00 AM as a part of The GreenShows. Lara Miller was chosen as part of a select group of designers for their fashion-forward sensibilities and ethical standards to present full runway shows. Miller’s collection kicks off the second day of The GreenShows. This is the first-ever group of sustainable fashion shows to be produced at NY Fashion Week. www.thegreenshows.com.We are very excited about this and are happy to be attending to cheer our fellow darling designer on.

Below is the info I found about the show from a press release:

“We should not have to sacrifice our planet for fashion. The fashion industry needs to be more accountable to environmental damage and pollution. While eco-designers are leading the way for a more sustainable lifestyle, without sacrificing style, prominent fashion designers need to take on more responsibility to safeguard our natural resources and achieve zero waste. The GreenShows is designed to foster and support eco-designers to continue creating fashion and as a platform to bring eco-fashion mainstream.”–Eric Dorfman, Founder of EdMedia Inc. and The GreenShows.

The GreenShows is proud to partner with the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) to host our opening night event on September 15. With their new campaign “Don’t Bag Indonesia’s Rainforests,” RAN is reaching out to over 100 fashion and luxury product companies who, some unknowingly, are using custom paper packaging such as shopping bags, made from the pulp of trees felled in the endangered tropical rainforests in Indonesia. Driven by market demand from the United States, the rapid destruction of Indonesia’s rainforests is causing massive global greenhouse gas emissions, destroying Indigenous communities, threatening unique ecosystems and pushing species like orangutans and Sumatran tigers to extinction.

With innovative green fashion also comes eco-friendly hair and makeup. The GreenShows is proud to announce John Masters Organics as our official hair sponsor and will announce our makeup sponsor shortly.

And extending beyond fashion and style, The GreenShows will also debut BodegaGreen, a replica of a neighborhood convenience store featuring a selection of lifestyle eco-products.

The GreenShows will follow a rigorous path, from top to bottom, to make sure the production is 100% environmentally-friendly and energy efficient. From the runway to the lighting, the design team will use recycled, recyclable, and compostable material to create a beautiful and resource conscious layout as a backdrop to the collections.

For media inquiries, interview opportunities and accreditation to attend the show, please contact STATE Public Relations at 646.714.2520, Ryan Urcia at ryan@statepr.com or Kristina Ratliff at kristina@statepr.com.

In The Darling Chic Boutique Today, Enso Bracelet

by trish on September 11, 2009

item-46752-48670d021d058-m
La Cinta Bracelet – tang – carnelian and sterling

The “Tang” colorway is a prototype of a new design – the “La Cinta” style features a narrow band of sterling wire and bead weaving, embellished at either side with gemstone rondelles. The piece is all metal and involves no thread, it has a significant weight and a springy quality to the weave. This bracelet is exactly 8 inches and closes with a lobster clasp and sterling rings. It’s good if you wear a seven inch bracelet and like a loose, sexy fit. Entirely hand woven, bead by bead.

Shop the complete Enso jewelry collection here.

About the designer:

Ensō is a meeting of ancient and antique bead weaving techniques and stitches with the cool aesthetics of modernism. Utilizing sterling silver, gold fill, high quality plated glass and metal beads, and lovely semiprecious gems and pearls, beaded jewelry takes a pared-down and elegant direction.

Ivey Brassil studied sculpture, installation, video, painting, photography – possibly everything other than metalsmithing and fiber art. She brings her interest in minimalism, repetition, color, and utilizing pre-fabricated forms in collage arrangement  to jewelry making. She focuses here on art jewelry with a modernist sensibility and an eye toward wearability.

Sir, is celebrating on September 10th by offering custom order services on its styles for no extra charge, with designer Joanna Baum on hand at the Williamsburg boutique to personally consult with interested shoppers. Sir is also very proud to be hosting an intimate window performance that night with 27-year-old Lia Ices, who WWD has called “a shoo-in for ‘next big thing’ status in the indie fashion and music scene.”

Sir’s relationship with local manufacturers—everything the label does is designed and manufactured in New York City—has led to the creation of its Custom Dressing by Sir division, which allows us to pass on to our clients the ability to pick out a Sir style off the rack, then select a shade for that piece from over 100 options, and place an order for turn-around in two weeks or less.

ROGAN and The Smile along with Bowery district neighbors join forces to bring the party downtown with THE ROGAN LINEUP – an eclectic collective of events from 6pm-12am and perhaps even later.

The ROGAN Bouwerie shop, which formerly housed the Bouwerie Lane Theatre, will reach back into its theatrical roots and set the stage for the ROGAN LINEUP – a celebration of fashion, music and film.

FASHION: ROGAN opens its doors to designers Matohu, Ajna, daraGOY and Salvor. We will also be selling 12 limited edition ROGAN customized Fashion’s Night Out t-shirts

MUSIC: ROGAN invites some of New York’s best noisemakers to perform on the mezzanine. The lineup for the night will include hourly guest DJ sets and a live performance by minimal, industrial synth-pop band, COLD CAVE.

FILM: A screening of rarely-seen footage shot by Albert Maysles including Little Edie, Sharon Tate, Ringo Starr and more. Also, photographic episodes by Anna Gaskell and film shorts from thought provoking artists.

To ENHANCE your MIND and CLOSET, we’ve created a BOWERY district map marking our favorite downtown destinations and events for the special occasion.

Please mark your calendars for September 10th and join us on the BOWERY.

About LadyLux:
Once upon a time, there was girl named LUX. She believed in humanity, doing good for the sake of good, and all things beautiful in our world. As she grew older and began to take stock of the world around her, her mission in life became clear: be a Change Agent. The tasks associated with being an “Agent” is to use her mind and voice to help fix what is broken in the world and empower the people in it to do the same. Thus was born The Lady LUX Network.

Elizabeth Wahler founder ladylux
Founder Elizabeth Wahler

At LadyLUX, our motto is “Good for the Sake of Good.” We believe in doing good and being good, while looking good. We believe in fashion, life, love, philanthropy, eco-luxury and laughter. We empower women to follow their passions, live authentically, and to honestly know and love themselves. Choosing health and your best self, being good to others and good to the environment is simply living the LUX life. In each outfit we put together, we always include organic and “green” items that were created with the idea of sustainability.

Smell the Summer Set 2

We just celebrated Labor Day, the official end of summer. I don’t know about you, but it usually reminds me to enjoy the last couple of summer days, as I mentally gear up for fall. We are about to become immersed in fall and winter fashions during Fashion Week NY, so I wanted to take a minute and give one last hurrah to summer with a great summer outfit that’s light, feminine, whimsical and ephemeral.

I built the “Stop to smell the summer” ensemble around the V-Neck Fitted Bottom Tunic from KRELwear.  The tunic is a great anchor piece for this ensemble, because it’s extremely wearable, feminine and flirty. Made from an easy to wear cotton fabric, it drapes the body for incredible fit. It’s a great layering piece that any woman should have in her closet; it can double as a top and comfortably carry you into the fall season. This is the kind of piece that you can dress up with heels and feminine accents, or dress down with moccasins, boho bag and jeans. I chose it in ivory, because it’s one of the best summer colors; it’s also available in black or gold for a more dressy look for the evening.

I decided to go with feminine accents to dress up the tunic, by adding beautiful and delicate accessories, such as the ultra feminine EA 539 earrings and RI 00771 cut out ring from Catalina De La Torre. The dangly earrings with white agate add a whimsy and sophistication that works beautifully in such a feminine outfit. The ring features gold vermeil over silver, and its cut out circles are reminiscent of sun-kissed grapes. To round out the feminine jewelry set, I chose the Margaret bracelet from Kim Marie Designs. This gorgeous piece features mother of pearl and rose quartz, together with delicate gold accents and chains.

To continue the theme of beautiful, handmade items, I added the Chantal hair piece from Katie Burley Couture Millinery and the Rosie hand painted clutch. The Chantal hair piece is hand shaped and sewn, and compliments our ensemble with its magical, whimsical vintage glamour. The Rose handbag is made from beautiful hand painted cotton material, accented with gold thread. This is not a regular clutch; you can actually hang on to it with a gold leather strap in the back.

No LUX ensemble would be complete without at least one recycled / eco-friendly item. I chose the “Songs without Words” origami brooch from Bakas Artysta. Made from 8 pieces of origami, it’s like a paper butterfly that has landed on our outfit to remind us to be good to our environment.

Nolcha Fashion Week

by trish on September 9, 2009

Nolcha Fashion Week being held in NYC is upon us along with all the other festivities planned during fashion week in the city. We are so happy that two of our darling designers will be involved during Nolcha’s fashion events.

Picture 2

Sept. 14, 2009 – L-Shandi, will be showing during Nolcha’s Ethical Fashion Preview. A show created by Nolcha and Bel Esprit Showroom, that will debut at the Carlton Hotel on Madison on September 14, 2009, during New York Fashion Week; supported by Aveda, Clarins Skin Spa, EDUN LIVE and Starbucks. This event will spotlight fashion designers who create collections using environmentally friendly materials and processes, and manufacture their collections respecting fair trade and fair wage principles. For more info about the Ethical fashion Preview Click Here. To RSVP visit www.guestcode.com and enter code 391 (Lara Akinsanya is the designer for L-Shandi)

Sept. 15, 2009 – Join Modarling and I (trishdarling), we will be in the Accessory lounge from 12 – 2 meeting all the designers and checking out the fabulous accessories from 8 emerging designers showcasing their designs. The event is located at the Bohemian National Hall in association with Czech Republic Consulate. We welcome editors, retailers, stylists and industry figures to meet the designers and view the Spring/Summer 2010 collections. For more info about the Accessory Lounge Click Here. To RSVP to this event visit www.guestcode.com and enter code 433.

Sept. 16, 2009 – MinnaK’s collection “Symphony in C” is a compilation of movement, but the way it is best described is how a dance performance changes in stages. Balanchine Symphony in C is the perfect example, as the movement of this dance begins with explosion, then it morphs into romantic longing, to the finale where it climaxes in joy and excitement. MinnaK will show this collection on the Nolcha runway for the Lux Collective. Her show is at 4:00 Sept. 16, 2009. We are so happy we get to attend and show support for her and her collection. For more details about the Lux Collective Runway Click Here. To RSVP visit www.guestcode.com and enter code 414. (Minna is the designer of craft: by anicca)

You can see the full schedule of events for Nolcha Fashion Week here.

Cheers and see you there,
