Sirius* and Sodafine Do It Again…
On September 18th, post the craziness of fashion week, I really enjoyed attending the first night of Arthur Arbit’s Williamsburg Fashion Weekend, to see the show for Sirius* and Sodafine, two of my favorite fellow Brooklyn based designers. These ladies are great, and this is the 3rd time I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them show. Siri Wilson is the designer of Sirius* and owner of Treehouse Brooklyn, and Erin Weckerle is the designer and owner of Sodafine, boutique and label. Both ladies do great work, and have shown together now a total of four times. I hope they continue putting on shows together, because they always seem to work magic.

Both designers showed vibrant collections, and the presentation was equally full life. Erin’s collection included several lovely hand painted pieces (which is always one of my favorite attractions of Sodafine) along with the beautiful hand-crocheted accessories she did. Among my favorite of Erin’s pieces in this collection was a stunning nuevo-esque floral belt piece in earthy tones, that really popped among the black and white pieces it accompanied. I really enjoyed seeing her beautifully tailored work. As Erin says she wanted to make some versatile pieces that could be wardrobe staples, made special with little touches, like hand painting and pintucking. I think she certainly presents this in her gorgeous work shown at WFW, made of mill end fabrics and organic cotton.

Sirius* showed cozy soft black jersey dresses in a variety or seriously sexy silhouettes, which are all one of a kind draped pieces. The fabric for these pieces was shibori bleached and hand sewn by Siri. They were stylish enough to wear out on the town for a night, and looked comfy enough to snuggle up and cozy in on the couch for an eve. I want one! Along with these lovely hand made garments Siri also showed her gorgeous crochet necklaces, which were a real crowd-pleaser. For this collection Siri made the necklaces out of eco friendly vintage stock copper. Her workmanship shines through in this lovely concept. The designer is launching a line of hand crochet jewelry she is calling Sirius* Lux. Stay tuned for her full website, up soon as www.siriuslux.com.
Of course their interesting clothes were accompanied by interesting models and presentation. The ladies pieces were worn by drummers from the all female percussion group Chica Vas (which was formed during their February WFW show), a couple of hoopers, who worked it on stage and through the audience, and last but not least the fabulous Hard Nips; an absolutely adorable and all female riot girl band, very reminiscent of my days of being a huge fan of Bikini Kill.
With cutting edge creativity, artisan techniques, cozy comfort and all the style in the northern hemisphere I don’t know what girl wouldn’t wanna rock out some Sirius* and Sodafine. I mean, you can do it while blaring serious riot grrl toonage on your headphones in the park, while getting some cozy couch time in the house, or while strutting some deliciously Brooklyn eat-your-heart-out style for a night on the town. That is what I call wardrobe essentials, all made by hand and with love in BK!
