Independent fashion delivered to your inbox

by trish on January 28, 2010

This is a short little how to video.  I made it to show how easy it is to stay up to date with your favorite designers with boutiques on Smashing Darling. By subscribing to your fave designer boutiques, you will always know what they are up to. Every time there is product uploaded by a designer you have subscribed to you will receive an email with the product right in the email. Click on the product from the email and it will take you right to the item listing. How cool is that? I think the really fun part is the site I used to make the video. Jing is a great tool and really easy to use. I learned about Jing a year ago and am just now getting around to implementing. Better late than never, right? Enjoy and look forward to your updates!

Cog Hammered Earrings

A sterling silver circle is delicately hammered by hand on all sides to create a faceted surface. The ring hangs from a simple sterling silver earwire. It is polished to a high shine for maximum sparkle! Each circle measures 5/8″ in diameter. Sterling silver with a polished finish.

About the designer:

Nina Dinoff began her creative career as a graphic designer, honing her skills at many of New York City’s leading interactive design agencies. As a graphic designer, Nina always strived to embrace clean lines and minimal design, eventually developing the unique graphic style from which her from work as a jewelry designer has evolved.

Nina’s love of pure form and manipulation of material led her to her pursuit of jewelry design. She creates metalwork that focuses on the interplay of simple, geometric form with the complex, organic nature of the body. Her work is bold, yet elegant; minimal in design, yet substantial in impact; stylish and of the moment, yet fueled by a strong, timeless vision.

Since she launched her first collection for Nina Dinoff Jewelry in 2006, Nina’s work has been praised by design blogs including Design Sponge and Modish. Her work is currently available in many boutiques from New York to Chicago, as well as online through stores like Mixt Goods and Etsy.

She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Today’s featured Item: Disco Doll Dress

by trish on January 26, 2010

item-71602-4b21b709990ea

Disco Doll Dress by Allison Leigh

Vintage glitter knit fabric off-the-shoulder dress. Tie at the bottom, shoulder strap joined by metal curved “barbell” pieces in pewter (looks like tarnish-y silver ). Sexy and funky all rolled into one! Runs small. Dry Clean only.

About the designer:

Allison has always been intrigued by fashion; starting out as an astute fondness for playing dress-up. Later, it became a source of rebellion…she didn’t want, under any circumstances, to adopt the conservative, cloned styles that were worn by her peers in the small midwestern town in which she was raised. At age fourteen, Allison’s mother enrolled her in a sewing class, and she quickly discovered her ability to visualize an outfit, then create it with her own two hands. Never one to want to blend in with everybody else, she fell in love with the idea of being able to make and wear a garment that nobody else on the planet possesed….the ultimate in individuality and self-expression. Allison  attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where, in 1993, she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Clothing and Textiles. From then until late 2004, she lived in Chicago, IL where she freelanced in apparel design, selling her pieces in local boutiques, and participating in runway shows and other fashion events.    Allison moved to Phoenix, AZ  in fall of 2004, en route to California, and stayed until summer of 2008, enjoying being a part of the emerging fashion scene in the area.  Now  a  resident of San Francisco, she will be working hard to get ala established as a fashion voice in the big city.   allison leigh apparel was officially started in 2006 and can best be described as young, flirty, fresh,  and a little ‘toungue-in-chic,’ so to speak…..

Who or what inspires you?

my mother, music, subculture, street fashion, sexy icons like Debbie Harry, Donna Summer, and Betty Page – to name a few……

What is your favorite music?

I just wanna hear a good beat……

What is your favorite food?

Sushi, Thai curry, cheese, pizza, wine, candy, and chocolate &hazelnut anything
