Fashion Show Coverage

We were thrilled to share with you, about a month back, that Darling Deanna Burasco had her designs coming down the runway at the West 18th Street Fashion Show in Kansas City. We love that this show supports local designers and is free to the public. Even better it takes place outside in the heart of the community’s center for art and fashion, taking up the entire block. It’s true, we want to go — (sigh) and someday we will! Here are some images of Deanna’s pieces and the looks they went with below. Click on over the the West 18th Street website for a full slideshow of their favorite looks from the show, and… rock on local darlings everywhere!

A few weeks ago we let you know about the annual spring independent fashion show out in Portland OR: Open Season. Darling Lindsay Reif launched a new collection that evening and thanks to local bloggers we get to see it now. Read on about the evening, and see more images of the show, at the links below. We would love to hear what you think of the new collection from Reif, comment and let us know darlings. (Subliminal message: Shop Reif on Smashing Darling)

Independent designer Gwen Beloti presented her FW 2011 collection a week or so ago during NYFW. Check out these snapshots from the show for a preview of new designs coming soon to her Darling boutique. Back in 2009 Gwen started an initiative, Fashionably Smart, Literally:

The project is designed to encourage, promote and reward education in young women. Every year the Gwen Beloti Collection teams up with a High School of which a Fashionably Smart, Literally™ young lady will be selected. This student though having experienced some form of a challenge manages to overcome and excel in their academics and for that GB would like to reward them.

We love that for Gwen, it’s: More Than Just Fashion. Such a great way to give back to the community, and inspire. Darlings, you never cease to amaze us.

Last week we sent out our cheer of support to independent designer (and darling) Angela Johnson for her upcoming runway show at Scottsdale Fashion Week. Last Friday she presented her new collection, Haute for Teacher, and here is what we missed! Thank you to Tony Zeh for all images, watch his full slideshow here.

Chicago Darlings on the Runway

by Mo on October 22, 2010

Fashion Focus is in full swing in Chicago and thanks to Violet Revolution we feel like we were in attendance to see a few Darlings stroll the runway just a few nights ago. Check out some images (courtesy of Violet Revolution and others) and read her full post right here. This first Kristin Hassan dress below was just added to her Darling boutique this week — fabulous! Congratulations Darlings, and all involved, looks like it was a great show.

At the Macy’s Chicago Fashion Incubator Past & Present show earlier this week, attendees were able to bask in warmer days, even for only a short time, while viewing the Spring 2011 collections from 13 of Chicago’s established and in-residence designers. Read more

Maybe we just told you about Minna’s little silk dress presentation, but we like when you can feel like you were right there in the room with us; check out the video below from Minna’s show that night at the Norwood. The dresses have landed in her Darling boutique and we  just had to share a few of these great lookbook shots for you to enjoy like we did.

Are you a hat darling? Sometimes a hat is just the thing you need to get you through the day, to change your mood, or be the perfect finish for whatever smashing style you choose. I could try on hats all day… either play along if you are with me, or I’ll catch up with you later, darling. Trish and I missed this show last week at The Green Shows but are happy to see the Milliner’s Guild had a great venue to strut their stuff. Darling Anne De Pasquale (*great sale in her boutique right now) is one of the milliners involved in the guild, and we always love seeing designers come together to support each other. Follow what they are up to on their Facebook fan page …and don’t miss more great images and press from the show while you are there.

MinnaK: Little Silk Dress Capsule Collection

by Mo on September 21, 2010

I almost missed MinnaK’s debut of her Little Silk Dress collection last week in Chelsea, it’s not unusual for me to be running late…but throw a quickie tornado in the mix and it really throws off your timing.  I made it just in time, and found it hard to leave once the tunes circa 1993 kicked in. Her capsule is made up of six lovely silk dresses inspired by the sand dunes of the Sahara Desert, each with it’s own perfect little detail: ruffled back neckline, back cowl neckline, a shark bite hem. The dresses were donned with jewels by a DC independent designer, Lucia Hamilton of bLuGrn Design. Here are a few shots from the evening below… dresses coming soon to her Darling boutique. See more images on her Facebook page, or take a few minutes and watch the photoshoot video: Behind The Scenes.

I love to be on a plane flying away to a new place, fresh color and texture for the eyes, getting a new perspective on everything in my world. When I finally do get myself into studio to hammer out some jewels, it’s those experiences, and those images that inspired me that flash through my mind. Joann Berman’s show yesterday at The Green Shows gave me that gypsy darling joy. A reminder to keep dreaming, keep creating, and crank the music. Check out some more images in Darling Flickr-land.
