Oh dear… prepare for us to get all giddy on you again! We can’t help it, ’tis just too good to see independent designers on the runway across the country, and their designs for sale right here on Smashing Darling. To us it is just a beautiful thing! Darling Avni is on the left coast this week as part of the Emerging Designers evening of San Fransisco Fashion Week. Kudos to Owen Geronimo and SFFAMA for these events and all they are doing to bring their local independent fashion community together – we think you rock.

The image at bottom is blurry – yes, and so are the memories of Iceland Fashion Week a few years ago when we first learned of Brazilian independent designer Helen Rodel. Her inspiration and vision, however, is crystal clear. Thanks to Not Just A Label you can be transported right into her studio and drink that inspiration up via this video below. This one is not to be missed darlings, grab your favorite beverage and take the time to watch.

If we had the magical power to shrink ourselves down to mini-Darlings (Incredible Shrinking Darlings?) … we would have hopped into the suitcase of independent designer Karelle Levy this weekend and gone to Berlin for Bread & Butter. Watch this B&B video to learn all about their history and feel like you are there too. Happy Friday darlings!

UNIQUE LA’s History: Making Consumerism Count
Started in December 2008, UNIQUE LA is now the largest independent design & gift show in the country! We created the event to allow shoppers to discover great local, independent design while taking part in community and supporting the local economy. The coolest thing about the show is that attendees get the rare chance to meet and shop directly from over 300 hand-selected designers and artists. Our mandate is that 90% of the vendors are local (LA and California), with a sprinkling of amazing American talent from around the country such as Brooklyn, Athens and Portland.
(…SO darling!)

POOL is the original independent tradeshow, established in 2001 for the boutique market and leading retailers world-wide. Learn all about it!

You never know what you are going to find! Bizarre Bazaar is an art fair with a little something for everyone, go check out what Detroit is offering in arts, crafts and music. Here are some other great resources for handmade and links to local designers in the Detroit area at Handmade Detroit.
