What’s Going On?

Back to school. Nose to the grindstone. Fall is here and in New England, the home of the Darlings, it is starting to cool off. Finally time to spend some time organizing inside, kiss your flip-flops goodbye for the winter, and pay some attention to your favorite layers and boots that have been hidden away…or hop online and buy anew! Consider Smashing Darling as your connection to boutiques across the country. Maybe a shopping trip to NYC, San Fran, and Chicago just isn’t in the cards for this Fall, but you can find designers from there right here with us. Go explore, and if you don’t have time to, don’t miss the Interviews and Editor’s Picks in the Smashing blog!

Maybe the Fashion Week buzz has died down, but we know the shows go on. Call up your best gals and come enjoy some runway fun this month:
- Next week My It Things narrows down the search for their It Designer, go vote here. The winning designer will be awarded $5,000 toward the production of their Spring 2009 line. If you are near NYC, grab some tickets and come watch the show with us!
- The following week we are happy to head to Jersey City in support of Seam Collective
and their next show, Fenomenon. Just $20 in advance for an extraordinary evening of fashion and music to benefit Women Rising, a non-profit organization that helps Hudson County women in need.

With our current Sugar and Spice issue, over at Cause a Scene magazine we’ve gone decidedly girly, and with summer holidays just around the corner, we decided to pink up our packing! This delightfully stylish luggage tag brings a-list bling to drab terminals, whilst this versatile scarf is a beach must… so pout those sugar lips, think fluffy and feminine, and wave bon voyage to beachwear boredom!       post by Sarah-Jane

Sarah-Jane is fabulous and so is Cause a Scene. Don’t forget to join them on Myspace (or Smashing Darling for that matter) When you check out the magazine you can see an intro video from Mandy Murphy. She is doing a video blog for Cause a Scene about her adventures of being a model so keep tuning in to check out new episodes on that. Other monthly shows will include Jamesson, Ethel Hallow, Luke Blake and Tarrie Noir.  Also you can read tips for selling as an indie designer by yours truely every month, as well as PR tips, modeling tips and more in the columns section. You can check out their O-fficial blog and read about all the yummy reviews they have been getting….but most importantly read the magazine it is full of amazing fashion and a lot of it is indie. See you there!

Welcome to # 17 – The Good News

What’s Going On

Craziness and joy abound in the Smashing Darling world – welcome all to version 2, we are reborn! This sweet indie gal to the right is a great image for how we feel, hands and arms raised up in a big cheer! Version 2 makes it so much easier to navigate the Darling world; to clearly see all the different categories of indie fashion that hang within our community. Product images are bigger, you can sort, filter, and scroll. We have hand picked some indie standouts for you in the Chic Boutique, created a collaborative home for indie fashion events nationwide (know a designer in your area having an event? add it in!), and created room on our homepage to keep you easily updated on our latest promotional fun (ie: this month Venuszine!).
Girls: Joy from shop.teddahughes

Women: Create your own, Kate Boggiano

What’s New

We love our new look! Please let us know what you think, and certainly if you have any problems – just let us know! Most issues thus far have been solved with a simple clearing of the cache. Computers have a way of remembering how things used to work. Here is how to clear the cache:
If using a PC, you can clear it out by going to Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files > Delete all offline content. If you are a MAC user, not to worry – you lucky ducks can check a box that says clear cache every time you shut down the computer.

Coming Soon

If you frequent the Darling blog you’ll notice our lovely new look there as well. Enjoy your Friday coffee, lunchtime, or those last few minutes before you run out the office door perusing the Friday Editors Picks. Sometimes it is the Darlings, sometimes a friendly editor we have smashed up with…you’ll just have to check in and see!

Keep your eye out on the weekend too for a bit of Scavenger Hunt fun. Spend some time exploring and I bet you can win…more info soon!

Boys: Round Botton Baby is super-fly!

Men: Dawson for men, the guys get their own
