It’s January. The calendar just flipped to a new year. This always makes me get a little dreamy. I dream about what will be in the months to come. I dream about all the goodness to happen. I dream about where I want to be in my life. I think about the 12 months I have before me to reach my new goals and make things happen. This always seems a good time to me to have fun with my wardrobe too. I like to buy something might not wear to the office … something just for me that reminds me the whole year to keep dreaming.

Born and raised in India, Avni’s designer, Avni Trivedi, spent her formative years immersed in the rich history, vibrant fashion, and beautiful art of Indian culture. From a young age, the crafts of local artisans fascinated Trivedi, who fell in love with the handmade fabrics she scouted out at artisan fairs in the villages of Gujarat. This week independent designer Gwen Beloti delivers fashion for social action into her boutique at Smashing Darling. The dress, below, was designed specifically for the Design the Dream philanthropic collaboration and is available for pre-order exclusively online here at Smashing Darling! The dress will also debut live in Gwen Beloti’s spring 2012 collection during New Jersey Fashion Week Oct 9th-13th.

Allison has always been intrigued by fashion; starting out as an astute fondness for playing dress-up. Later, it became a source of rebellion…she didn’t want, under any circumstances, to adopt the conservative, cloned styles that were worn by her peers in the small Midwestern town in which she was raised. At age fourteen, Allison’s mother enrolled her in a sewing class, and she quickly discovered her ability to visualize an outfit, then create it with her own two hands.
