We think a little bit of quickie couture at the beach is the purr*fect place to be this weekend. Beach trumps all in the last few weeks of summer! If you can’t get yourself to Shelter Island this weekend do not fear — hop on over to Krelwear’s Darling boutique for a sample sale not to be missed.

SFFAMAFW2011NEW

Oh dear… prepare for us to get all giddy on you again! We can’t help it, ’tis just too good to see independent designers on the runway across the country, and their designs for sale right here on Smashing Darling. To us it is just a beautiful thing! Darling Avni is on the left coast this week as part of the Emerging Designers evening of San Fransisco Fashion Week. Kudos to Owen Geronimo and SFFAMA for these events and all they are doing to bring their local independent fashion community together – we think you rock.

We were thrilled to share with you, about a month back, that Darling Deanna Burasco had her designs coming down the runway at the West 18th Street Fashion Show in Kansas City. We love that this show supports local designers and is free to the public. Even better it takes place outside in the heart of the community’s center for art and fashion, taking up the entire block. It’s true, we want to go — (sigh) and someday we will! Here are some images of Deanna’s pieces and the looks they went with below. Click on over the the West 18th Street website for a full slideshow of their favorite looks from the show, and… rock on local darlings everywhere!

Coming Soon: Charleston Fashion Week

by Mo on March 10, 2011

Always stay true to your vision. Always think outside of the box. Don’t follow trends, create them. Andrea Serrano

If we could swoop down to Charleston for the upcoming festivities of Charleston Fashion Week we most definitely would. The community gets fashion-ready with a week-long shop local celebration, GO! Fashion, as a precursor to CFW. Then they cruise through five nights of events with 40 runway shows, and even better an Emerging Designer Competition. Learn about all the emerging designers involved here. Charleston, we like your style.

Check out some local SF looks from designers to be featured tonight at Project San Francisco organized by SFFAMA. The evening is a celebration of local fashion and proceeds will benefit SFFAMA as well as the local chapter of San Francisco Dress for Success. Oh how we love fashion for good… The runway will showcase local talent and serve as a platform for recent graduates and alumni from fashion school embarking in the industry. Full details at Eventbrite, and don’t forget to check  SFindiefashion.com for more independent fashion events and goodness!

We can’t wait to see more from Jasmin Zorlu! While Fashion Week takes a firm hold of NYC, San Francisco does not sleep. Take a look at a few SF indie fashion events happening tonight and on V-day. A fashion show for the lovesick? We love it. Read Jasmin’s post about these shows in her blog.

Kahri at Fashion Fights Cancer

by Mo on August 18, 2010

It is really wonderful to see a Darling participating in such a great event like Fashion Fights Cancer happening tomorrow night in New York. We don’t know anyone who has not had a loved one fighting cancer. Stop. Take a moment to think about how lucky you are. Take a moment to send some strength, love, hope, and courage to those who need it the most. Kudos to everyone involved in this event, we think it is smashing to see fashion doing good. Share a story with them, follow event updates on Facebook and Twitter and go check out all the designers involved.
