We are sending ourselves to Bend, Oregon this weekend in spirit. That’s right, little darling clones are going to go have a fabulous time and finally meet Stuart Breidenstein of Go Robot. We couldn’t be more excited; Stuart was one of the very first designers to open a boutique on Smashing Darling back in 2007! If you want to go back in time, please go read our interview with him here. Of course you are welcome to stay in the here and now and check out this recent piece below, written about him in his own smashing community. Stuart’s studio/gallery -Stuart’s of Bend- lives in the historic Ironworks building in Bend and will be chock full of events this weekend for Last Saturday, details below. If you make it, be sure to weave your way downstairs to Stuart’s for the first ever *clearance sale — oh my. Have fun darlings! Don’t forget: Shop Go Robot on Smashing Darling.

Bazaar Bizarre SF

by trish on November 11, 2009

New People Artist Village Banner

We see a couple darling designers will be showing at The Bazaar Bizarre in SF, Sat. Nov. 21, 2009. Go check out fiftyseven-thirtythree and Go Robot in person. Tell them Trish and Mo say hi! Wish we could be there. We see lots of other great designers in the list as well! Looks like a great place to do a little shopping for the holidays. The bonus, all locally made products from good ol’ American designers.

GoRobot

Go Robot!
Go Robot! is the creation of Stuart Breidenstein, an Oregon-based techno producer-turned jewelry designer. Stuart uses combinations of materials, from the precious to the discarded, to create one-off and low-production jewelry and odd home accessories. With the help of his robot pals, he churns out funky stuff until the wee hours in his backyard laboratory/music studio.

What They Are Saying

by trish on October 2, 2008

I wanted to share some of the comments that are being posted about the Smashing Darling community over at SheFinds. They are so fun to read if you want to see more there are pages go see for yourself.

Jenni on September 26th
I absolutely adore the Jasmine blouse in the Yana Collection. It’s gorgeous, meticulously sewn and the ruffles add an unexpected whimsy toward a strong modern-day business woman’s look. I would DEFINITELY get this!

Karin on September 26th
Probably a piece of jewelry from go robot!, like the Galactic ring

Glenda K on September 26th
O.K. I HAD A LOT OF FUN looking on the SmashingDarling website. I hit on something that is a must have!!! PUNKIN NYC’s Noelle coat. It comes in pink or white and I looovve it.

Baxters house has some nice bracelets, Hot Lunch has some cute aprons which I am into for some reason, and Buster and Boo has this really sweet Bunny bun necklace which I would give to a friend who calls her daughter that.

Marilyn Wons on September 27th
Oh I would buy the Papusza Couture!

Cathy W. on September 27th
Love, love, love the reworked bold 1960’s coat and the Sexy 1970’s Turquoise Dress.

Catalina K on September 28th
Thanks for letting us know that such a special website and store exist. As far as what I would like to buy from Smashing Darling, it would be an Emily Watson snowflake pendant, then the Kwabena black chiffon top seahorse dress and the Lucy Sweater by Kate Boggiano.

Devacat on September 28th
The Sandmaiden pants would be great for teaching yoga classes.

mogrill on September 29th
Love the Mod Petal Necklace! Awesome!

Lena on September 30th
I love the Victorian San Francisco Love Letters bracelet. All this stuff is amazing! What great finds! I also love the “Boob Man” onesie. Oh, I love a ton of stuff.

Meghan on September 30th
The Sandoval Handbags Azana bag! And the Lara Miller Silvia Blouse.

cavalletta on September 30th
Julie Lake’s designs are fabulous!

One of the easiest, most budget-friendly ways to cheer up your wardrobe is with accessories – in particular, jewelry. Even a dressed down jeans-and-cute-tee looks spicy instead of drab by adding an eyecatching piece or two. Here are five rockin’ handmade rings from SmashingDarling.com crafted by some of the most talented indie designers on the market who combine unusual materials like silver with resin or concrete, and – like fashion magpies – give new life to the likes of vintage ball buttons and cut colored glass:

1. Berry beaded cocktail ring by Lucky Accessories
2. go robot! Vancouver ring
3. Anne Maa Designs sterling Triangle ring
4. Manic Trout Poison Ivy Button ring
5. unisex Katy concrete ring by Tam Aura

Button Graveyard

by trish on April 24, 2008

It has brought to my attention by the lovely girls at Compai that a button factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn was demolished with all it’s beautiful contents of ribbons and buttons still inside. The site is a graveyard to thousands of buttons. It really is too bad that no one considered contacting anyone in the indie design community to come collect the contents, clean it up to use it or donate it. There are lots of organizations out there that would have loved the donation.

New York’s premier reuse center

Scrap

Encouraging creative expression in the arts
and promoting a greater understanding of environmental issues

Here are some cool designers that embrace recycling to check out from Smashing Darling.

Recycled by Hyena linen top made from recycled fabric

Angela Johnson ballgown made of recycled t-shirts

Foundling using recycled old Maps

Steven Shaver Designs recycled bobbin Earrings

Go Robot uses recycled acrylic

Other great sites for recycling are Freecycle, and Craigslist. This is all good info to keep in the back of our heads next time we have a things that need to be passed onto their next rightful owner, rather than becoming part of a landfill. Please, leave a comment and share any other organizations that help and encourage recycling.
