There isn’t much that can be said that hasn’t already been said about sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte, and the exhibit States of Matter … the good, the bad, and the controversial. But we can say that we are always happy to see fashion designers pushing the limits, raising the bar, and inspiring all to aspire to something higher creatively.

‘States of Matter’ features the dance costumes and tutus designed for the movie Black Swan.

By removing the garments from the figure and creating an installation around them, the focus will be entirely on the dresses and tutus as singular sculptural objects rather than pieces that are reliant on their relationship to the human form,” said Associate Curator Rebecca Morse. “Their inherent narrative qualities will be revealed.

As darlings we love to share what is happening with our smashing designers from every corner of the world. This morning we are sharing a Glow in the Dark Fashion show, in LA, tonight May 21, 2010 at 10:00 p.m.

      krelwear_LAevite3

      Presented by KRELwear.

KREL’s DiscGlo Collection lights up The Purple Lounge at Standard Hollywood with a glow-in-the-dark fashion presentation on Friday, May 21, 2010. Currently on a world tour, KREL’s DiscGlo show blends innovative fashion, performance and music into a singular experience unlike any other fashion presentation. On a world tour, KREL’s DiscGlo Collection has been presented numerous times to great critical acclaim- this will be the first viewing in Los Angeles.
Inspired by 24 hour party people, club culture and chameleon-like characters, “DiscGlo” brings you from night to day with a playful palette of hot neons and nudes.  Characterized by altered states and heightened perceptions, the entire collection is glow-in-the-dark and blacklight-reactive, each unique piece will change and adapt to its environment, with patterns and colors shifting and transforming with varying degrees of light and dark. This is KREL’s first collection that is composed entirely of one-of-a-kind pieces.
Proceeds to benefit A Matter of Trust. Help to wipe oil spills clean with recycled materials – please donate your clean nylons & stockings at the door!

Vintage Fashion Expo In Santa Monica

I love drawing inspiration from vintage clothing. I could sit for hours examining the seams, darts, darts, facings and linings. I am a little jealous of the lucky people in Santa Monica that will be attending the Vintage Fashion Expo this weekend April 24 & 25. I will have to wait for Brimfield in May to get my vintage clothing sale fix. More info…

I don’t know about you but for me this looks like an amazing event to show off some good old-fashioned, fashion fun. Creativity just for creatives sake … well, and some pretty great prizes. 40 designers in 5 cities will compete, do you think you have what it takes? I bet you do. You know how sometimes I have delicious little thoughts that are sometimes quite devious? Well, I’m having one right now. I think it would be fun to see DVF, Isaac Mizrahi, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein or any major branded designer join the ring and get down and funky competing with an independent/emerging designer. This format definitely levels the creative playing field. No matter though, it is all crazy good fun.
