Welcome to # 26 – Spring Fever Indie Fashion

What’s Going On

Happy Spring! In NYC trees are starting to bud and that makes us want to shout hip-hip-hooray! The wonderful designers here at Smashing Darling make us want to cheer too! Last week a few darlings donated with us to support City Harvest through a great event: Social Media for Social Change. Click here for the wrap up; all together supporters made almost 50k lbs of food available to hungry New Yorkers. Check out some pictures from the event to see TrishDarling in her SMASH UP tee, as well as one of our ticket/tee winner rockin’ her SMASH UP mermaid tee – we love it!

What’s New
Designers are loading up there stores with Spring goodies just for you. Some highlights scattered around the page: new darling Audey of Chicago, (part of the Chicago Fashion Incubator!), Erhart Street Wear, shedding some layers for Spring, and don’t miss the stripes, florals, and lovely details from PINaR ERIS.

Spring FEVER brings SALES! There are great sales happening right now…but be sure to check back, they only last a limited time and new ones sneak up all the time.

Spring is a great time for trunk sales too! Keep an eye on the smashing blog for those.

Change. A new year, a fresh start.
Change for Trishdarling, our parade leader, comes big. Did you know that Trishdarling is also Mergirl? Read here, and now you do. Closed are the doors to her Chester, CT boutique, and into a new studio she goes…soon we will all be drooling over new collections in her darling boutique. News stumbles in of many an indie designer closing their physical location and relying on word of mouth and their online presence only. This is why it is so important to talk to us and be a fan whether it is on your very own street corner, Facebook, Twitter, or wherever you like to gab the most!

Fashion Week will soon return to  excite and exhaust the heeled soles and typing fingers of fashion bloggers (oh, and all the rest of the media world -wink) and lovers from NYC, and everywhere. We are excited to see a new collection from darling Papusza Couture debut at Williamsburg Fashion Weekend at the Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn. Welcome to # 18 – the good news

What’s Going On

Whirling dervishes, that is what we are! Things are busy in the Darling world. Last month JulieDarling -always keeping her hand on the tech pulse for our Darling world- was in San Fran attending the girls in tech conference. TrishDarling and MoDarling just had a blast at the BUST mag 15th anniversary party – and oh what a party it was! Congrats to the entire BUST staff for 15 years celebrating girl culture on the cutting edge. Then we were up and at ‘em early to check out the excellent 3rd Ward and meet Bob from Brooklyn Royalty; keep your fingers crossed for video footage of laughs and inspiration shared with her. She has amazing things in store for her upcoming fashion show in September, but we can’t tell!

Wait, there’s too much! Did I forget Mashable’s SummerMash last week? Maybe MoDarling had a bit of fun there as well…great people everywhere. We don’t want you to feel left out, there is fun for all in the Darling blog. If you have missed it (maybe you should subscribe!) please send us some pics to show us how you wear your indie fashion from any indie or emerging designer. Check in on Friday’s for our guest editor picks, then Saturday morning coffee-time can be spent playing the Scavenger Hunt and maybe scoring a free SMASH UP tee – come play with us!

Welcome to # 17 – The Good News

What’s Going On

Craziness and joy abound in the Smashing Darling world – welcome all to version 2, we are reborn! This sweet indie gal to the right is a great image for how we feel, hands and arms raised up in a big cheer! Version 2 makes it so much easier to navigate the Darling world; to clearly see all the different categories of indie fashion that hang within our community. Product images are bigger, you can sort, filter, and scroll. We have hand picked some indie standouts for you in the Chic Boutique, created a collaborative home for indie fashion events nationwide (know a designer in your area having an event? add it in!), and created room on our homepage to keep you easily updated on our latest promotional fun (ie: this month Venuszine!).

What’s New

We love our new look! Please let us know what you think, and certainly if you have any problems – just let us know! Most issues thus far have been solved with a simple clearing of the cache. Computers have a way of remembering how things used to work. Here is how to clear the cache:
If using a PC, you can clear it out by going to Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files > Delete all offline content. If you are a MAC user, not to worry – you lucky ducks can check a box that says clear cache every time you shut down the computer.

It is hot out, that’s what is going on. Summer has arrived fast and furious. We figure you don’t have all day to surf Smashing Darling to find goodies to stay cool in, and still look smashing…so we did it for you! Dresses and tanks will get you through, and here is a scattering some fresh attire from some new, some original, Darlings (much more here).

Don’t forget dad this weekend! Maybe he has a little fashion darling in him? Old school dad may be hard to buy for, maybe a indie tie will do. New dad, no problem; show him how cool you think he is with a funky t-shirt, wallet, or maybe some Manplastic!

how to – SHOUT IT OUT

Change is in the air. We are redesigning Your House for Indie Fashion, and we don’t want you to be lost in your own home! SDv2 is looking mighty fine, and we hope for it to be up and running around the beginning of June. Be sure your store is current and up-to-date! Here is what to expect:
1) Shoppers will be able to shop a new juried section of the site -the best of the best- here are the criteria:
- Minimum of 10 items in the store
- Uploading new items quarterly
- High quality images
- Inventory kept current with available items
- Have a complete profile
Email us if you would like to be considered.

Other new features

2) Bye bye forums and hello Indie Fashion Event Directory. This new feature will make it much easier for you to upload your own indie events (and events in your area). Therefore Darlings everywhere will be creating a comprehensive list of indie fashion events happening across the country – all in one place.

3) Mini blogs!

Okay here is our favorite. Around the time of the launch or shortly after you will have access to a new mini blog right in your account! Very easily you will be able to keep everyone that stops by your store up to date. Darling shoppers and designers will be able to stop buy your store and see what is going on, strike up a convo with you, collaborate with you, and find out what you are up to next. Fabulous!

Typically we would would be giving you the next round of photo – how to – in this spot. But with all the change happening around Smashing Darling, we want to make sure you are aware of one already happening. Julie Darling has started regular Monday Photo Critiques, simply put, they are really great, and very important. If you haven’t read the first two yet, take a second and do so in the blog. It is great to be having conversations with you all, be sure to leave a comment. The Good News #14

What’s Going On

Busy, busy Darling’s we are! The end of March found TrishDarling helping out with the 2nd annual Shagg Film Festival, JulieDarling waiting for a plane that never boarded to Sweden, and MoDarling running around Miami trying to catch some Miami Fashion Week. I caught a bit of the DRES show, (thanks to Mod Media for images), and a fab little visit to the KRELwear studio – excellent. Why stop there? Add in a quick excursion to Charleston, SC where it just so happened to be Fashion Week as well! This beautiful city was full of friendly faces and some amazing hats by Leigh Magar, her boutique is just a museum of hat forms, take a look.
