Summer and Such
Mid-summer stretch Darlings! What’s happening? Getting ready for fall? Selling out at many a summer market?…all of the above? Don’t forget to send us your events (trishandjulie@smashingdarling.com) so we can help spread the word! We love seeing the number of Darling designers click higher and higher, so take a look around and help us welcome the newcomers. Who knows maybe you’ll end up doing a bit of shopping yourself!

New Features
We definitely think it is important to take a break to relax and regroup every now and again. Now it’s easier to let your customers know you are away. Log into your Darling account and you’ll see a new tab where you can set your vacation mode when you decide to dissappear: easy-peasy!
Ready to clear out some inventory? Now shoppers can see the dollars they will save when shopping in the Sale tab of your boutique. Both the original price and the sale price will be listed. Go re-list your sale items for the new feature to kick in!
…and you told all your fans about the Frequent Shopper Program already, right? (wink, nudge.)

Independent Retail Week: Philadelphia, supported by Lucky Magazine and Yelp, is the inaugural week-long shopping extravaganza created by Nolcha starting June 14 through June 20 designed to help sustain the local retail economy.
Bel Esprit, a Philadelphia-based, fashion showroom has partnered with Nolcha to provide a platform for independent retailers to showcase their summer inventory and engage and show appreciation to valued customers via a week-long, city-wide series of in-store mini fashion shows, interactive events, special discounts and retailer demonstrations designed with the budget-savvy fashionista in mind.
Additionally, Macy’s Center City will support Independent Retail Week with dedicated displays of independent fashion. Collaborative efforts such as this offer fashion-forward Philadelphians an opportunity to explore their city’s hidden retail gems, while providing much needed support to lesser known boutiques and designers.

The Green Shows were especially inspiring, featuring a selection of eco-conscious fashion designers including Darling Lara Miller. We cannot wait to see her beautiful Spring line up on Smashing Darling. Bob Bland rocked her show at her very own venue The Arsenal, check out this Village Voice slideshow – sweet! Brand Yourself Darlings!
This past Monday eve we got to see some of our favorite people-and meet some new faces- at the second IFB Dress Up Soiree, hosted by sweet Jennine from The Coveted. It was a packed house, and a great panel discussing the future of online fashion media. Stay tuned to the IFB blog and catch recaps.

As always fashion week is crazy for most who get involved with it. As part of our busy fashion week schedule we will be with Nolcha in their accessory lounge today hanging with the featured designers and their collections. Hopefully we will get some good feedback about how these designers feel fashion week is going and how it actually helps their smaller brands to be featured during this (chaotic, as I have heard it described) time.

This event will spotlight fashion designers who create collections using environmentally friendly materials and processes, and manufacture their collections respecting fair trade and fair wage principles. Sept. 16, 2009 – MinnaK’s collection “Symphony in C” is a compilation of movement, but the way it is best described is how a dance performance changes in stages. Balanchine Symphony in C is the perfect example, as the movement of this dance begins with explosion, then it morphs into romantic longing, to the finale where it climaxes in joy and excitement. MinnaK will show this collection on the Nolcha runway for the Lux Collective. Her show is at 4:00 Sept. 16, 2009. We are so happy we get to attend and show support for her and her collection.
