In the midst of taking the latest round of images off my camera the other day I realized how far behind I am in my usual picture sharing online and with family and friends. I got stuck in iPhoto perusing some fun moments from the past year, and landed on these. It was a gorgeous late September day, Fashion Week was over, and I was thrilled to hop on the ferry out to Governor’s Island in the sunshine. Pioneers of Change was the occasion. In and out of houses my friend and I walked, inspiration everywhere. But the Painted By house was my favorite. Outside on the steps and porch were random bits of fabric detailed with beautiful stitches and beading, each completely unique and drawing me inside. Here is what I found…

I treasure
Painted by is a series of garments in progress.
Starting points were beautiful antique Bulgarian
family pieces to which different generations
have added new elements.
We were touched by the soul
of these layered garments.
Painted by consists of unique pieces
that have grown from different signatures.
Each piece has been worked on in sequence by
Dutch designers and artisans of nearly forgotten techniques,
that have become precious beyond time.
A story in garments.

Learn all about Painted by here and about the designers and students who collaborated on the house here.
