Clutch Ring

A little bit of sculpture for your fingers. This sterling silver ring by Free Forged features four delicate tendrils reaching into a cup to clutch a bezel set carnelian stone in place. The band is smooth and round, and the cup and tendrils raise slightly over 1/4th inch or 1 cm above the band.

Custom rings must include size with order, or production may be delayed. Finish options include bright, semi-matte, and oxidized (pictured). Oxidation colors may vary slightly from what is pictured.
Purchases that are missing the size information will be delayed until I can contact you. Please allow up to 6 business days for production.

Your ring will be shipped gift-wrapped. Shop the full Free Forged jewelry collection here.

About the designer:

I’m recent graduate from the University of North Texas with a Bachelors degree in Metalsmithing and Jewelry. I work primarily in sterling silver, copper, brass, enamel, and occasionally beads, semi-precious stones, and found objects.

I’m currently developing several themed jewelry lines,  with my Molecular Series currently in the shop. These pieces are all abstracted forms of molecules – simple sterling silver circles connected in various random patterns. I enjoy varying the texture in the various atoms – it keeps me from getting bored and makes each molecule unique and different from the last!

Keep an eye out for an upcoming series of necklaces, brooches, and earrings in a casual line-art style.

About the designer:

Jacob Vaughn Gushue is a 28 year old artist/designer hailing from Boston, MA who runs a one-man silk screening and leatherworking shop called Project TransAction.  Jacob earned his undergraduate Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with Distinction from Massachusetts College of Art in 2003, where he studied in a unique program called Studio For Interrelated Media (S.I.M.) Since then, he has shown in two indie film festivals (Flaming Film Festival and Pawtucket Film Festival,) a number of political poster shows (including Paper Politics and internationally acclaimed Yo! What Happened to Peace?,)  co-produced a series of rock/mixed media art shows with Form Productions, and most recently worked on graphic design and tech for Homo A Gogo 2009.
Jacob created Project TransAction in August 2006 as an idea based around bartering and re-use. Over time it evolved to become what it is today: a shop featuring a unique combination of custom screenprinting and handmade leatherwork. Jake designs and hand-crafts each and every item with careful attention to detail, and in the most earth friendly way possible.  He selectively works with other progressive companies to create affordable, long lasting, and thought provoking goods that people can feel confident investing in.

This trio of candy is a breath of “minty fresh” air for your neck. The three candy pieces are created from digital drawings transferred to plastic. The fronts are then sealed in a glossy resin-like material for high shine. The three hang on a shiny black metal chain for a cool contrast.

Mariposa Studded Cuff – Buy Now

This whimsical, feminine cuff is the first of the new women’s designs from Project TransAction. Made from a single strip of recycled saddle scrap leather, this piece is hand dyed to a rich cherry-oxblood red then screen printed with a butterfly/vines image. The cuff is accented with a mix of brass and steel rivets and secures by criss crossing over the wrist for a less rigid look. See more items from Project TransAction here.

A bit about the designer:

Ici is the sole female blogger and webmaster at California-based Steel Closet. She is also an art student and web producer for a popular San Francisco boutique.

This spring, I get to fulfill one of my lifelong dreams- going to art school to study film and animation. Yes, I’ve heard the warnings. I’ve heard stories. It’s expensive, it’s hard work, you’ll get ripped to shreds by your professors, etc. etc. We might as well brace ourselves for the challenge with the ultimate self-confidence booster: a good outfit.

I’ve been told I “look” like an artist. How does one do that, exactly? Does it just come naturally? Do I read too many art magazines? Watch too much artist television? Whatever it is, I’ll help you get that look-

Smashing Darling – Red Red Red by iciwici

1) Artists get hit by a lot of stereotypes- they’re snobby, cynical, reclusive. I may fit all of the above at times (not gonna lie!), but my general style remains simple, playful, and not too serious. That’s why these Erika Hendrix bright red skirt suspenders work so well with Kate Boggiano’s polka dot shirt.
3) For a smallish tote still big enough to hold the necessities (wallet, phone, sketchbook and colored pencils), I’d go for the NK Henry Holiday 2008 Collection Pisces Tote
4) Whether you’re in San Francisco, New York or Iceland- wear the Savory silk scarf. It will fulfill both your warmth and style quotas.
5) Complete the outfit with Silver Frog’s chunky geometric shapes, as well as this Naik Fur crochet pompom hoodie- leave the stereotypical artist’s berets in 19th century Montmatre!

Now all you need is a generous film of charcoal dust and sleep deprivation to complete the “artist” look. Good luck, all.

Two great looks, one great coat. I don’t know about you but that is always a bonus for me. I love being able to create a whole new look just by changing the accessories. This coat/jacket is a feat of engineering. Long and sophisticated with black and white accessories or short and sassy with a knit hat and fun colors. You can’t go wrong.
