This quote makes my heart sing, “Garment manufacturing is quietly thriving in San Francisco, thanks to a plethora of local designers producing handmade clothing here in small batches…”
It is so amazing to see clothing manufacturing on an upswing in the US, not because of big businesses, but because of independent local designers with small businesses. Thank goodness for social media. If it weren’t for twitter I am not sure I would have seen this article, How Clothes Are Made: An Inside Look At Garment Manufacturing in SOMA. SF Indie Fashion posted it in their tumblr blog. It’s worth the read.
Open studios make us giddy, especially when a group of designers come together to support each other like the Metal Arts Guild in San Francisco. If you live nearby, go meet some local designers and see where they work. Learn more about the artists involved here, and if you are a jeweler in the community save the date for the upcoming symposium below. As always, thanks for inspiring us San Francisco darlings!

The merchants have gathered up and started an Art Walk to take place the third Thursday of every month. Here is a little musical preview of what you will hear if you get over and shop at Fiftyseven-Thirtythree, not to mention a sweet 15% off.

If you are near San Francisco this weekend you can go take a peek at Vanessa Gade’s new collection created just for The Mission Statement. The rest of us Darlings will have to settle on shopping her Inner Circle collection on Smashing Darling, a perfect back up plan we think. Happy Friday darlings!
Special exclusive preview of Vanessa Gade’s new jewelry line just for The Mission Statement. The Wright Collection pays homage to the architecture and design of Frank Lloyd Wright, most notably his series of stained glass windows. Vanessa attributes the elongated rectangle shapes to the influence of artist Piet Mondrian while the overall feel of the collection recalls the elegance and movement of the Art Deco era.
Come hang out, drink some (skinny) pepsi and rum, and check out The Wright Collection.

There is a Fashion Feud kicking off tomorrow night in San Francisco to last all spring out on the left coast – SF, Portland, and Seattle – sweet! Local designers will compete to be awarded top designer of their city, with Fashism providing live mobile voting. Read all about it below and see what you’ve missed in the video from the 2010 Feud.
FASHION FEUD is a live fashion design competition. Designers are given a mystery bag of Mood Fabrics material, a live model, a hair and makeup team, and an hour to create a design. The finished designs are presented by the models to a live audience and then voted on by both the audience and our panel of local industry judges. The winner from each round advances to the Finals in each city to compete for the title of best designer in their city.
