Born and raised in India, Avni’s designer, Avni Trivedi, spent her formative years immersed in the rich history, vibrant fashion, and beautiful art of Indian culture. From a young age, the crafts of local artisans fascinated Trivedi, who fell in love with the handmade fabrics she scouted out at artisan fairs in the villages of Gujarat. Darlings: What is your design process?
Laura: um, chaos? i usually look at how larger factors might influence people’s behavior and attitudes. i pull in influences and trends from art, politics, furniture, nature, streetwear, film, music, accident, magazines. just life really. i bottle it and let it all distill for a few months and determine what the essence is so that i can strike through the heart of what people are feeling next.

Kangaroo Pocket Pencil Skirt by Kahri
Today’s featured item is a skirt by independent fashion designer Kahri. The Kangaroo pocket Pencil Skirt is made of cotton/lycra twill. The front pocket details feature a screenprint, “Dreaming Is Free”, and silk charmeuse ruffles at the pocket opening. There is a center back invisible zipper. Back has pleated safari pocket with beading and contrast hand stitching details with flap and silk covered button. Back bottom has pleated detail with tab details and silk covered buttons.
