Darling Fashion Around the City
Uptown. Downtown. Brooklyn. From luxury pieces to ethical bits – we have been popping around oohing over Darling (and others like Bodkin, image right) Spring Collections. The Green Shows were especially inspiring, featuring a selection of eco-conscious fashion designers including Darling Lara Miller. We cannot wait to see her beautiful Spring line up on Smashing Darling. Bob Bland rocked her show at her very own venue The Arsenal, check out this Village Voice slideshow – sweet! We were thrilled to watch Minna K present at Nolcha, as well as meet some wonderful accessory designers in the Accessory Lounge…more recaps in the blog, coming soon.

Brand Yourself Darlings!
This past Monday eve we got to see some of our favorite people-and meet some new faces- at the second IFB Dress Up Soiree, hosted by sweet Jennine from The Coveted. It was a packed house, and a great panel discussing the future of online fashion media. Stay tuned to the IFB blog and catch recaps.
We are so inspired by all the amazing bloggers out there able to use their voice to promote their own personal brand. Take some time to read this post by Crosby of PR Couture. Info about branding, how important good photos are, prioritizing as a small label and loads more. A must read.

Passion, Process: Blog Away
Darlings, are you out there blogging about your brand, your inspiration, and the passion that keeps you going through the wonderful insanity that is life as an independent designer? We hope so. If you have a blog and we don’t know about it, or a favorite indie designer’s blog that you read, please let us know so we can link to it from the Smashing Blog. We want people to know all that you do to keep your designs out there. Read this Grechen’s Closet post/comments about supporting independent designers and see all those out there supporting your world.

Speaking of our favorite bloggers…(wink wink) what better way to breeze into Fashion Week than a meet-up two nights ago at the NYC boutique Debut, hosted by Deanne of Dream Sequins. It was a lovely time, check out the pics here. Thanks Deanne!

I feel like I have failed the community! I found out about this awesome exhibit (that I won’t be able to see) a few weeks ago and forgot to post. This exhibit looks so amazing. A good one to see to get the creativity flowing. Ivana Ristic deconstructs men’s clothing and reconstructs it into ultra feminine, modern clothing, and is just truly inspiring. Please, please, please if you go to see it, or have been, I would love to hear more about and would love to see pictures. Any info would be great. Go, Go, Go … there is only today and tomorrow. Show ends Aug. 27th. I hope this blog post reaches at least one person that hasn’t seen it and now will go.
Jennine from The Coveted caught up with the artist/designer a few times. To read more about Ivana Ristic check out, Having Tea With Ivana Ristic and Ivana Ristic – Deconstructed Process

Show Dates: August 13-27
Regular Gallery Hours: Tuesday through Saturday 12 to 6pm

I am so excited and happy to have Jennine aka Lady Coveted, as our guest editor today. For those of you that do not know her or her blog go to The Coveted. Her blog is amazing and is built around her personal style. When I think of Jennine, Brave is a word that really comes to mind (stylish is just a given). She uses her blog as a way to connect and share all the beautiful things life has to offer. I stole most of that last line from her ‘about us‘. As her tagline states- be stylish • be lovely • be coveted- So without further adieu I give you editorial and picks from Lady Coveted.

One of my favorite pieces is this button up blouse with bold black and white stripes. It’s so simple yet, it’s such a strong, graphic statement. While the black and white combo is nothing new, it’s also timeless. I can always mix with other elements, patterns, checks, gingham, florals, polka-dots. I picked these three pieces because they really emulate how I’m feeling at the moment, feminine silhouettes, effortless Parisian trousers, ruffles and lace. – Jeninne
Clockwise from the top these are her picks from our smashing designers:
1. Bye Bye Birdie by Dahl by Project Runway’s Alison Kelly
2. Amsterdam in Navy Stripe by Misile
3. Ginsburg Trouser by Laura Dawson
