A challenge!
Take a beautiful piece of art
and design jewelry around it.
As part of an informal challenge with some artisan collegues we decided to use pieces of art as the inspiration for a jewelry design. I have long been enamoured of the work of Mandy Budan. ( www.budanart.com - check her work out it is exceptional!) so I used her landscape, Muskoka Evening as my starting point for this addition to my Sticks and Stones Series.
The rich color of the Garnets pick up on the moody dark feeling of the painting. I have used faceted nuggets in two sizes; 10mm and 17mm x 16mm. The facets sparkle and reflect the light. Smooth, rounds in a bold 11.5mm size are rich in color and a textural contrast to the faceted nuggets.
The beautiful ovoids are the star of the Garnet show. Two at 25mm and the center bead at 20mm are transluscent and beautiful. The Garnets are balances with the magnificent AAA Biwa Stick Pearls. Their amazing peacock colors run the gamet from deep purple to rich gold. When hit by the sun you can stare at them for hours and find almost every color of the rainbow. The photos truly do not do them justice. They range from 1mm to 21mm. Gold vermeil spacers add rich contrast.
The 18" one of a kind necklace closes with a 24kt gold vermeil detailed toggle clasp. The greens of the painting are represented by a gleaming 24mm x 15mm Vessonite Idocrase faceted briolette dropping 2" from the back of the necklace. Hidden yet seen....
The necklace can be adjusted for size if that is your desire, just contact me.
