Crocheted Large Lace Hair Forms
Crocheted, large lace hair pieces with a crocheted Kimono Sweater over a handpainted refabricated hoodie. The sweater has many influences; Japanese, Greek, Roman, Etruscan, Minoan, Egyptian. It is a study of Stefan's fashion hypothesis that writing and clothing emerged from fishing and fish nets in cultures with moderate climates around the planet. The sweater has forms from all the cultures, the onc, zed, a, m, n, s, alpha, omega- all shapes that evolve in this piece as a structural necessity to hold the squares in the same shape evenly across the whole kimono (in the way a fishing net would). The overall pattern of the piece is influenced by a Classical Medieval under kimono for armored Samurai on horseback. The hoodie is painted to look like leather armor. The painting on the front of the hoodie is of Mary Magdalene, after her mythical journey to Les Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer. The media used: acrylic and pencil over gold leafing.
