A Quirk of Art: Mixed Media Jewelry by Beth Taylor

About Me

All A Quirk of Art jewelry is imagined, created and hand-crafted with quality craftsmanship by me, Beth Taylor, in my Bethlehem, PA studio.

My journey with jewelry began in 2002 as a creative outlet from a very stressful job. Who would have known that one simple weekend workshop would lead me to my life's passion! But as soon as I picked up a torch and applied fire to metal, I knew I was hooked.

Never very interested in creating traditional jewelry, I explored ways to incorporate non-traditional materials into my work. When I began combining found and recycled objects with more traditional materials like sterling silver and gemstones, I found my true creative voice. I became an avid "picker", determined to save remnants of the past from junk drawers and garbage heaps everywhere and elevate them to the status of wearable art.

The non-conformer in me relished the opportunity to challenge our conceptions of what is valuable. I pushed to see beyond the confines of the original objects I was using, re-imagining them and their uses. I especially wanted to do this in a way that created jewelry that inspired and excited while being appealing, fashion-forward and easy to wear.

My goals today remain much the same, but are continually evolving and growing as I acquire more skills and find new inspirations. Tin cans have become central to my jewelry, providing the bright colors I love so much. My jewelry is a combination of the old and new, of contrasting textures and colors, of the fun and the (slightly) serious.

Above all, I strive to create jewelry that has a sense of meaning infused with beauty and fun. Quirky, yet wearable, each piece is meant to be coveted, collected, and cherished.
