About Me
The Victorian Era was one of embellishment. Victorians decorated the walls, floors and even ceilings of their homes. Then they placed nic nacs throughout their homes. On their person, the Victorians wore several layers of clothing at one time, and a well bred woman would not leave the house without proper embellishment from her head down to her toes, including hat pins and shoe clips.
Shoe clips, or shoe ornaments, were used to embellish plain shoes for a special occasion, rather than purchase many pairs of shoes. Eventually these clips found their way onto dresses, scarves, and any other place that needed a bit of sparkle (although please do be careful if you decide to use your shoe clips on clothing as they can harm fine fabrics).
These shoe clips are reminiscent of the Victorian era, although updated for modern times. They are not intended to be reproductions of actual Victorian era pieces. Instead, they re-use vintage jewelry, buttons, beads and other components in this an attempt to keep items out of the landfill and remind us of a past era, traditions of the past, and people of the past.
When possible, I try to include a bit of history in the descriptions of the items. The history I include is generally taken from my Victorian San Francisco research website: www.victoriansanfrancisco.com. To learn more about all things vintage, please visit my non-commercial website.
